Reilly and Maloney

Reilly & Maloney

This is a site I made to advertise an event at the grand opening of the fertile ground garden stage. I made this page in under a week on a very small budget. I am happy with the results.

About Me

Who am I?

My name is Shawn Bird, I live in Shelton Washington and I make websites, websites that look appealing and have a great sense of style. I have been offering web design in Shelton since March of 2009. I could not ask for better clients than the ones I have had the pleasure of working with this far, you are all amazing, thank you for giving me the chance to do something I love.

I live in the apartments over Vern's with my lovely wife Samantha. I like to read and play Dungeons and Dragons in my spare time. Honestly I have trouble when people ask me for my hobbies and interests because, lucky for me, my job is my hobby. I love learning new things and I spend hours upon hours keeping up with web design blogs and reading about things like typography, color choice and PHP frameworks.

Lets Get All Formal

Here is a copy of my resume, I think it looks pretty cool, I don't know how important looking over a resume is to anyone but if you are curious:
My Resume (pdf)

This is a robot thing I drew when I was bored, it is not really important but it is probably more fun then looking at a resume:
Picture of Robo-Walker (pdf)

DISCLAIMER: This Robot is below design standards as well as falling short of several safety guidelines. Use of Robo-Walker in high winds, rain, cold conditions, warm conditions, or outdoors may result in serious injury or death.

What Are My Dreams?

I sometimes fantasize that I will one day use my powers of web mastery to save the world from a pack of unruly (and often rude) zombies with table based layouts and a bad taste in fonts. Until that day comes, which is just a matter of time, I have occupied myself with more simple set of goals.

By choosing me as your web designer, in a way, you sponsor me. Here are some of the things that you can help me work towards:

  • I hope to be able to get my Bachelors Degree within the next 3 years.
  • I want to buy a house so that my wife can have a garden and we don't have to live in a tiny apartment.
  • I want to make at least $1000/month by the end of 2009.

Services

Design

Logo design, typography, color selection, and layout. You can trust me to make your site look current and appealing. All my designs start from scratch, not a template, so each one is unique.

Programming

Here is a list of programming languages I know and what they are for:
HTML and CSS, the basic languages of the internet, all of my sites are written with valid HTML and CSS. I am a strong supporter of web design standards and take pride in my code.

JavaScript is an incredible language. But because some users turn off Java for security reasons it is something to use sparingly. I use Java through JQuery for animations that add flash to a still functional site.

PHP and Ruby on Rails. These are the languages that run on the server, they retrieve data from users and databases, write data to databases and do a host of other things. I prefer Ruby but I am also very comfortable with PHP, especially the Code Igniter framework. Normally one or the other is used for things like an E-Commerce site or a CMS.

Identity

From branding to existential counselling I can bring unity to your brand and harmony to your company. I can make all of the ads, business cards and website design match.

Prices

Your Basic Professional Website Design

This website design includes a custom graphic design and more options than you can shake a mouse at. This is a perfect entry level site that will give directions, store hours, and more! ex: octopusgardenjewelry.com, olympicgalleryshelton.com, and angleagency.com

$500-$800

Advanced Website Design with CMS

A CMS is a Content Management System, it means that you can update your own site without paying a programmer or looking at any complicated code. This saves money in the long run over paying for someone to update your site for you if you make changes more than once or twice a month. This option includes all the benefits of the Basic site but with a CMS.

$1000-$1500

E-Commerce / On-line Store

This option comes with the features of the above two as well as more secure hosting and an SSL certificate so you can safely handle encrypted credit card information. It is too hard to accurately estimate the cost since every store is different but the total will probably be above $1000 but under $3000.
